How to Hide Instagram Posts from Someone Without Blocking Them

It is a common awkward situation: You have a coworker, a relative, or an “ex” following you. You don’t want to Block them (because that creates drama), but you also don’t want them seeing everything you post.

Here is the cold, hard truth that most guides won’t tell you: Instagram does NOT have a “Hide Posts from this person” button.

However, you can achieve 90% of the result using three specific “Soft Block” methods. Here is how to make yourself invisible to them without them knowing.

Method 1: Hide Your Stories (The Easy Fix)

While you can’t hide feed posts easily, you can hide your Stories. Since most people watch Stories more than feed posts, this solves most of the problem.

Go to your Profile > Menu (☰) > Settings.
Tap “Hide Story and Live”.
Search for the person’s name and select them.
Result: They will never see your red/green ring at the top of their feed again. They won’t know they are hidden; they’ll just think you haven’t posted.

Method 2: The “Soft Kick” (Remove Follower)

If you have a Private Account, this is the most effective method. You don’t block them; you just force them to stop following you.

Go to your Followers list.
Search for their name.
Tap the Remove button next to their name.
Result: They are not notified. They simply stop seeing your posts in their feed.
- Risk: If they visit your profile manually, they will see “This Account is Private” and the “Follow” button. They might realize you removed them.

Method 3: The “Restrict” Mode (For Bullies/Annoying Comments)

If your problem is that they leave annoying comments on your posts, use “Restrict.”

Go to their Profile.
Tap the three dots (…) > Restrict.
Result:
- They can still see your posts.
- BUT, if they comment, only they can see it. You and your friends won’t see their comments unless you approve them.
- Their messages go to a hidden “Requests” folder, so you don’t get notifications.
